Fun in folk rhythms, Irish-Polish folk night, PolskaÉire Festival 2019 in Gorey.

Jun 24, 2019

On Saturday, June 8, the Function Room of The Coach House in Gorey resounded with folk rhythms. All this thanks to the “Irish-Polish Folk Evening” of one of the events of the PolskaÉire Festival 2019 in Gorey. It was a return to the roots, which became an opportunity to strengthen Polish-Irish ties through traditional music. The entire event began with an Irish dance show performed by The Mahon School of Irish Dance.

Then performed the group “Circle of the Magic White Song” singing traditional Polish and not only Polish songs. We have had a journey into folk Slavic atmosphere.

The second part of the evening is the performance of “Boolavogue Rebels” – Padraig Sinnott with his wife Brigid and friends is a group of traditional Irish musicians from Wexford. Elemental rhythms took us to dance.

After Irish musicians it was our turn to visit our special guests from Poland. Krzysztof Korthals and his son Filip – musicians from the Puck district in Kaszuby performed for us. The gentlemen sang and brought us closer to the Kashubian culture. They showed and played on traditional folk instruments such as devil’s violin, burczybas or basuna. You could also take snuff. During the evening there were also festive songs such as: Szła dzieweczka do laseczka or Hej Sokoły.

The whole evening ended with a joint performance of “Boolavogue Rebels” and the people from Kaszuby and once again it turned out that the music is universal and brings people together. The musicians were perfectly acquainted with this formula, playing together alternately Irish and Polish songs. This picture will surely remain in our memory as what is most important in the PolskaÉire Festival, that is integration and mutual learning about our cultures. We hope to meet at a similar event during next year’s PolskaÉire Festival in Gorey.
Thanks to everyone who was with us that day.
