Art Performance Remembrance & Identity Andrzej Kalina

May 28, 2017

“During the recent PolskaÉire Festival in Gorey, Andrzej Kalina’s performance on Saturday 27th was the culture highlight of the week. A performance of symbolic art that reflected some of the historic and cultural similarities between our two countries, Poland and Ireland.

The connection to the soil of the earth, tended to by generations of families, father to son, grandfather to grandson, mothers to daughters, who with bare hands till the fields, planting the seeds and harvesting the produce. Andrzej’s performance, was a step back through the generations but a reflection of our present day dependence on sharing, sharing of the harvest, sharing of our cultures and sharing our communities.

The performance was portraited in the silence of words, accompanied by the sounds of music. This being symbolic of the fact that if we remove the language and the accents we are the same, our link to the religious faith, our family values, our sense of community.

If we watch in silence we begin to see the real humanity that is Poland and Ireland.”- Joseph Dixon
